Mass e Bhat click to enlarge image Recently I (Hannan) went back to Bangladesh after a six year gap to see my family and see how life has changed since I was last there.. I had heard about the things such as the auto vehicles had converted from petrol to gas, that there were more and more big apartment block's, shopping centers and new hotels had opened up and that alot of investment has gone into places such as Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylet. All of which is true and its great for the country, its great to see that the capital city is now smog free the difference Gas conversions has made is huge, its interesting to see that Dhaka is more forward thinking than most first world countries when it come to dealing with it's car pollution. Whilst in Bangladesh I also visited and filmed in some of the slums in Dhaka and Chittagong to see what life for children and families was like and how with all this development are whole communities being left behind as the slums looked the same as they have always looked, the difference being more people there have mobile phones now than ever before. I also visited some of the factories to document child labour practices that are taking places in some part's of the country and spoke to the children about this and to see what they most desired from life and all of them just wanted to be able to have the opportunity to go to school and get educated. This documentary was not planned as I specifically went to catch up with my family and only intended to do some filming on the gas conversion but whilst there and after seeing the huge difference in the country and after meeting and seeing the children working everywhere I had to film. We are currently speaking to a number of NGO's and Charities in the UK about aiding children in Bangladesh so if there is anybody out there especially based in Bangladesh know of any NGO or Charities (bar the obvious few who we are speaking to) we can partner with, please do let us know.. In the meantime here are a couple of NGO's and charities to look at to get some more information CSKS (Cinnamul - Shishu Kishore Sangstha) This is a small non government organization which started working with street children in Dhaka in 1987. They work with the most vulnerable, socially and economically disadvantaged children living in Bangladesh. Before I go I would like to thank my family without whom this documentary would have not been made, my mum, aunties and cousins all helped me in securing interviews and locations such as the slums in Chittagong and Dhaka. As my family come from the villages just outside of Dhaka they are featured in a segment in the documentary as I also filmed extensively in our village. Their support and encouragement made this film possible and I thank and love them for that. This page will be full with still's and clips from the film we shall update this page in due time. If anybody would like to speak to us about our finding or this documentary please do not hesitate to contact us. |
